UPSANEWSROOM.com has spotted two flyers making the round on WhatsApp groups belonging to students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra hinting at a possible demonstration over the suspension of the Student Representative Council (SRC) election for the 2020/2021 academic year.
The flyers have captions such as: “Time Up! We need UPSA SRC Elections Now!”, and “UPSA-SRC Deserves Better,” among others.
There are two hashtags accompanying the flyers. They are: #WeWantOurSRCBack and #SRCElectionsNow.
It is not clear who the originators of the flyers are but UPSANEWSROOM.com sources have connected them to some students who are disappointed with the pussyfooting posturing of the school management and the SRC caretakers as far as the student council election is concerned.
Last Sunday, February 28, 2021, marked the end of the two months the school management gave to the Interim Management Committee of the Student Representative Council (SRC), to organise the postponed 2020/2021 council elections.
UPSA students were unable to head to the poll to elect their SRC Executives due to the shutdown of schools on March 15, 2020, a direct result of the rapid spread of the coronavirus in Ghana.
An Interim Management Committee was put together to oversee the affairs of the SRC, however, the two months given to its members to organise the much-anticipated student council elections have elapsed with no clear road map.
UPSANEWSROOM.com can confirm that several petitions have been addressed to the IMC, Dean of Students and the Registrar of the school, with little to no success.
