Gadangme State Overlord requests urgent meeting with UEW over shortage of Ga teachers

The Overlord of the Gadangme State is requesting an urgent meeting with the management of the University of Education, Winneba over the shortage of competent teachers to teach the Ga language.

In the letter dated February 12, 2021, and sighted by UPSANEWSROOM.com, Wor-Lumor Konor Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru said the shortage of Ga teachers will affect the teaching and learning of the language in the Greater Accra Region if the issue was not addressed swiftly.

“The request has been necessitated by the recent seeming shortage of Ga Teachers in the region which is heading to the expunging of the language from the time tables of many Basic Schools in the region,” the letter said.

The letter from the Gadagme State Overlord comes days after two basic schools in the country announced their decision to cancel the teaching and learning of the Ga language due to the shortage of competent teachers.

But it appears the traditional leaders in the Greater Accra Region are ready to do something about it.

“The meeting will seek to identify the bottlenecks with the Ga Teachers education in the University and identify possible solutions,” the letter said.
