Another lockdown threatens as Ghana’s Covid-19 cases hit 3,813

Ghana has recorded 616 new cases of covid-19, sending the tally to 3,813, the Ghana Health Service has said.

The recent spike in cases of coronavirus across the country may lead to another lockdown imposed in some hot spots such as Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has said.

“Yes, there is a possibility of some more restriction being introduced especially with regard to how this trend is going. If these numbers keep rising where the average daily increases to 210- 250 that means in five days we will be hitting about 1000 plus.

So if it continues, then as the President himself articulated; then we are heading for more restrictions and if it means reviewing some of the legal instrument [we will do so],” Mr Oppong-Nkrumah told journalists at a media briefing in Accra on Monday.

The Greater Accra Region with places such as Ayawaso and Korle Klottey is leading with the highest number of daily cases. It is followed by the Ashanti Region, particularly Kumasi.
