The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has celebrated the election of the former Nadowli-Kaleo Member of Parliament (MP) as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
In a competitive election held on January 6, 2021, Alban Kingsford Bagbin defeated Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by 138 votes to 136 votes respectively.
Two votes separated the two candidates after what has been described as a chaotic process during the night.
The poll turnout means that Ghana can now boast of an Executive in the hands of the New Patriotic Party and the Legislature in the hands of the National Democratic Congress.
Marking the new democratic strides, the NDC has organised a victory party for Mr Alban Bagbin which was attended by the party leadership and affiliated MPs.
The NDC Presidential Candidate for the 2020 General Elections, John Dramani Mahama was in attendance with his Campaign Manager, Professor Joshua Alabi. Also, other members of the Campaign Team were at the brief ceremony, UPSANEWSROOM.com has gathered.
