The former Member of Parliament for the Nadowli Kaleo Constituency has won the speakership position of the 8th Parliament.
Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin defeated the speaker of the 7th Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye with two votes.
At the end of polls, Mr Bagbin polled 138 votes against 136 votes recorded by Professor Oquaye.
The election of the speaker of the 8th Parliament came with its own drama as new-elected MPs from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) took turns to snatch the ballot boxes.
Earlier, there were chaotic scenes after the Clerk of Parliament, Cyrill Nsiah ruled against the recognition of the Assin North MP-Elect, James Gyekye Quayson due to a court injunction.
But he later changed his position and allowed him to cast his ballot for the speakership after fierce opposition from the NDC MPs.
