I’ll finish ‘abandoned’ projects in my first yr – Mahama

NDC Presidential Candidate, John Mahama

The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he will spend his first year completing abandoned projects if elected in December 2020.

John Dramani Mahama said his government will spend the first three months taking stock of projects that had been left uncompleted across the country.

“We will start no new project in the first year and what we will do is to harness all resources that are possible to continue and finish projects that have been left abandoned,” he said.

The ex-president disclosed this in an interview after completing his tour of the Oti Region.

“In the first three months when I come into the office, we are going to ask all districts to take inventory of projects that have been abandoned and have come to a standstill and base on that inventory; we will do a budget to include providing resources to finish those projects and then we can look at other projects,” Mr Mahama said.

He was reacting to comments by some chiefs of some abandoned projects in their region.

“In the previous administrations, an effort was made to keep development going and so I haven’t seen a case where there is a sudden directive to stop work. Projects can be ongoing while you do an audit and make the adjustment where necessary” Mr Mahama said.
