The report of the Committee of Inquiry probing two officers of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra is about 90 percent complete, UPSANEWSROOM.com has learnt.
The Oheneba Nana Osei Kumi Committee on Friday ended its sitting with key witnesses, including the female student from whom the extortion claim first originates and SRC President, Peter Mwin Zumah who made the final payment for the needy but brilliant students.
Already, the two accused SRC Vice President, Nathaniel Jill Addo Junior and Deputy Speaker of the General Assembly, Simeon Yao Mede had declined to appear before the Committee after they were written to.
The two say they do not recognise the constitutionality of the Committee constituted by the SRC President to uncover the true state of the allegation made against them.
Messrs Jill Addo and Yao Mede have been accused of extorting various sums from students in the hope of adding them to the list of beneficiaries of the SRC Welfare fund.
The UPSA SRC has been paying the fees for some needy but brilliant students every semester.
However, these two officers are said to have approached some students individually and discussed the plot of adding them to the list for the SRC to pay their fees for them and in turn, they will come for the monies from the back door.
A female third-year student who became a victim after sending GHS850 to the Mobile Money account of Simeon Yao Mede had made the whole deal public.
UPSANEWSROOM.com can confirm that the Committee is currently compiling its report for onward transmission to the SRC President, Dean of Students and the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
