The Committee of Inquiry probing the #schoolfeesgate involving two top officers of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra has commenced its hearing on Thursday.
The Committee in a letter signed by the Chairman, Oheneba Nana Osei Kumi and copied UPSANEWSROOM.com has invited the embattled SRC Vice President, Nathaniel Jill Addo Junior and Deputy General Assembly Speaker, Simeon Mede Yao to testify before its members.
The two are alleged to have demanded and taken various sums from students and placed them on the SRC welfare school fees list meant for needy but brilliant students. The SRC pays the school fees for some needy but brilliant students every semester.
Messrs Jill Addo and his friend Mede Yao are said to have placed some students who could pay their fees on the list and used the back door to extort monies from them, a victim has been reported as saying.
Laying claim to a legitimate power from a higher law, the SRC President, Peter Mwin Zumah set up the five-member Committee to investigate the matter.
The two SRC officers cited are due to appear before the Committee on Saturday at exactly 12PM, the letter sighted by UPSANEWSROOM.com read.
Meanwhile, the Committee will be speaking to some key witnesses and persons who advanced monies to Messrs Jill Addo and Mede Yao in order to be placed on the welfare list.
