One of the two officers of the Students’ Representative Council at the centre of a fresh school fees scandal at the University of Professional Studies, Accra has spoken at last.
Simeon Mede Yao who is the SRC Welfare Committee Chairman as well as the Deputy General Assembly Speaker says he had genuine concerns for his colleagues who had not paid their fees.
Mr Mede Yao and SRC Vice President, Nathaniel Jill Addo Junior are alleged to have demanded various sums from some students in order to make them beneficiaries of the SRC Welfare.
The SRC has been paying the fees for some needy but brilliant students every semester.
The duo, according to reports, approached some students who can pay their fees with a plot to place them on the Welfare list thereby having their fees paid for them by the SRC. The beneficiaries, in turn, will advance part of the fees to the two.
But Mr Mede Yao in a statement Tuesday said he had no ill-intention in his engagement with the beneficiaries.
