Akufo-Addo promises ‘more cash’, face masks to NCCE as Covid-19 cases jump

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) will receive “more money” and face masks on Monday as part of plans to bolster its Covid-19 campaigns across the country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced this during his ninth Covid-19 address to the nation on Sunday.

“…tomorrow, Monday, 11 th May, ten thousand domestically-produced face masks and more money will be delivered to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), to enhance its capacity to undertake the important work it is already doing.” 

The NCCE has repeatedly complained about its poor state since the beginning of the year.

Despite its financial challenges, the Commission rose up to the occasion when the country recorded its first coronavirus cases.

The NCCE was able to marshall a paltry sum of GH¢100 for its workers to undertake a sensitisation campaign on the coronavirus.

Responding to the concerns of the Commission, the President has announced more assistance to the often-ignored important state institution.

President Akufo-Addo told Ghanaians face masks and “more money” will be given to the NCCE to “enhance their work.”
