The Electoral Commission of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra is expected to outdoor a new Electoral Calendar soon.
In a statement Wednesday, EC boss, Appoh Papulius said the Commission has drafted a proposal that would be submitted to university management with the aim of electing new leaders for both the SRC and the various departments for the 2020/2021 academic year.
“The ultimate objective of the proposal is to ensure a smooth transition from one administration to another through the election of new leaders for the SRC and Departments for the 2020/2021 Academic Year,” the statement read.
Activities for the 2020 SRC and Departmental elections have been on hold following the closure of the school as a result of the threat posed by the coronavirus.
The electorate and aspirants have been disillusioned with no clear picture about the future of the polls.
But after a virtual meeting of Electoral Commissioners of the school on Tuesday, the conclusion was that a new electoral timetable should be drawn and submitted for the sanction of the university.
“The general consensus was that the Electoral Commission has a sacred and legal duty to keep by ensuring that while acknowledging the new normal forced upon the world and Ghana by the vicious coronavirus, it affords students the opportunity to elect their leaders unfailingly as ably provided in Article 18 of the SRC Constitution,” the statement said.
