The suspension of the President of the Students’ Representative Council of the University of Professional Studies, Accra has been quashed.
The SRC High Chamber in a unanimous decision issued a certiorari Thursday to quash the suspension of Peter MwinZumah.
Mr MwinZumah was suspended by the General Assembly on February 14, 2020, for failing to appear before it to respond to some questions relating to transactions undertaken by the SRC.
The SRC President was summoned into a meeting with the university authorities, resulting in his failure to attend the GA meeting.
His absence compelled some GA members to move a motion for his suspension, which was seconded by Mr MwinZumah’s Vice, Nathaniel Jill Addo Jnr.
All 13 General Assembly members who were at the meeting, including SRC executives, unanimously voted for President’s suspension.
But the SRC High Chamber has described the action of the General Assembly as unconstitutional, null and void and of no legal effect.
Reading the decision of the court, the Chairman of the High Chamber said President MwinZumah continues as the SRC President.
