The University of Ghana has suspended two lecturers who were captured in a ‘sex-for-grade’ documentary produced by BBC.
Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr Paul Butakor have each been handed six-month and four-month suspension respectively without pay for breaching the university’s statute and regulation on sexual harassment.
“In line with statute 46 (2) of the University of Ghana Statutes, as amended, and regulation 15.0 of the Code of Conduct for Academic Staff of the University of Ghana, the Disciplinary Committee recommended [the suspension]. The suspension takes effect from January 1, 2020,” the statement signed by Stella A. Amoa read.
The two lecturers were indicted in a documentary produced in 2019 by BBC over incidents of sex-for-grades in some prestigious public universities in West Africa.
