NUGS President scoffs UPSA GA over summons, says he won’t come

External Affairs President of UPSA, Albert Anum

The External Affairs President of the University of Professional Studies, Accra has declined an invitation to appear before the SRC General Assembly over some questionable transactions.

Mr Albert Anum was summoned to respond to some questions with regards to the organisation of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS)-UPSA chapter’s weeklong celebration last semester.

Findings of a probe conducted into the financial statement of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) have revealed the sum of GH¢40,000 approved for the week celebration lacked “source documents.”

The Auditors said the External Affairs President was unable to adduce “even one [document] to prove the authenticity of the expenditures.”

“Also, the financial statement prepared showed a deficit balance. None of the figures on the Financial Statement can be vouched,” the report said.

Acting under its powers under the SRC Constitution, the General Assembly wrote to invite Mr Anum to appear before it to respond to some questions.

But in a letter dated February 16, 2020, and copied UPSANEWSROOM.com, the NUGS President said he would rather appear before a Commission of Inquiry set up to probe the week celebration, in order to bring finality to the matter.

“I write to inform you that I can’t appear before the House to present what you are requesting for,” the letter said.
