UPSA GA summons SRC president over ¢53K used for seminars, office equipment

The President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra will be facing the General Assembly over some monies spent last semester.

In a letter copied UPSANEWSROOM.com Friday, Peter MwinZumah is said to have spent the sums of GH¢25,000 on training seminar and GH¢28,677 on the purchase of stationery materials in the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.

The revelation was made during the reading of the SRC financial statement for the first semester as required by the Constitution.

Displeased by the manner those monies were used, the General Assembly moved for the SRC President to be summoned before it on Monday to properly render account.  

In an interview with UPSANEWSROOM.com Saturday, Speaker of the General Assembly, Rt. Honourable Prince Courage Gavi, said the summon has been necessitated by the need to maintain a high sense of accountability among student leaders.

The Speaker explained the General Assembly exists to mediate between student leaders and their constituents in matters that are dear to the university community.

Meanwhile, the SRC Auditor is expected to publish the financial report on the various notice boards on campus for students to know the state of their funds.
