The President of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council (SRC) is facing possible impeachment over an unapproved expenditure.
Isaac Agyemang is alleged to have withdrawn the sum of GH¢ 66,138 from the SRC coffers and spent same without due authorisation from the SRC General Assembly.
During the presentation of the SRC Budget Statement at the first GA meeting of the Second Semester, members noticed some discrepancies with regards to the expenses made by the Council.
The GA had approved the sum of GH¢365,452 for the SRC dues as expenses for the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.
However, in mysterious circumstances, the ‘Income Statement’ presented to the House showed an amount of GH¢ 431,590 had rather been withdrawn.
This represented an excess of GH¢ 66,138 which was not authorised by the GA.
When asked to explain the difference, the SRC President and Treasurer, Philomena Sarbah Andam, said the emergency nature of some of the programmes the Council organised in the first semester occasioned unnecessary spending.
The Audit Board of the SRC has been tasked to probe the matter and the Council has been given seven days to make up for the difference.
