Missing excavators: Akufo-Addo’s gov’t rotten from head down – Sammy Gyamfi

Some of the seized excavators found themselves back on site

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the government as a rotten one after news broke about the missing excavators seized from some illegal miners.

“The chilling and sordid revelations that have come to light since that scandal broke go to confirm the massive rot that has characterized President Akufo-Addo’s so-called fight against ‘Galamsey’ in the last three years,” party Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi said Thursday.

Some 500 excavators seized by the government’s Galamsey Taskforce have gone missing and nobody has explained the mysterious circumstances to the public.

There are also claims that some ounces of gold seized from illegal miners could not be located either.

Reports have it that the Central Regional Chairperson of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Horace Ekow Ewusi, has a hand in the missing equipment.

“We are talking here about the Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Central Region, Mr Horace Ekow Ewusi, and five other accomplices who have taken advantage of the state’s fight against galamsey, to allegedly expropriate seized equipment including the 500 excavators, ounces of gold, thousands of weapons and other possessions of illegal miners,” Mr Gyamfi said at a news conference in Accra.
