2 finance officers in police grip after meeting Parliament’s committee

The two are; former District Finance Officer of the Assembly, Isaac Akowaah, and the current District Finance Officer, James Esilfie

Two persons have arrested by the police over some alleged financial improprieties at the Sefwi Akontombra Assembly in the Western Region.

They are; former District Finance Officer of the Assembly, Isaac Akowaah, and the current District Finance Officer, James Esilfie.

The two are accused of conniving to cover the financial irregularities at the Assembly and also deceiving Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that is discussing the 2015/2016 Auditor General’s Report.

They are at the Parliament’s police station.

PAC Chairman, James Klutse Avedzi, ordered the arrest of the two men after they appeared before the committee Monday.

“You want to hold the committee to ransom; that the two of [connived] to try and deceive this committee…We are going to lock you up.”

“The police will take a statement from you and that statement will be used against you in the law court. We [the Public Accounts Committee] will not prosecute you. The government will take over [this case],” Mr. Avedzi said.
