The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted yet another victory for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 General Elections but says the presidential race would be close.
In a report released in December 2019, the EIU said despite slow progress on job creation and industrialisation, it expects a victory for the NPP.
But the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the EIU said may cause an upset in the 2020 polls if it presents a coherent opposition to the NPP and hold it accountable for many of its unfulfilled campaign promises, particularly on infrastructure.
Reacting to the report, NDC Deputy General Secretary, Peter Otokunor, said there will be “obvious change” of government by close of polls.
“The NDC will be winning the December 7 polls and President Mahama will become the President again. While we look at 2020 with hope, we are not oblivious of the fact that 2019 was that of misery and hardship. People had really gone through tough times,” he said.
